The President of the Regional Council exercises executive power. He puts forward and prepares policy decisions which will be submitted to a vote by the elected representatives. He convenes and presides over the proceedings of the Assembly and the Standing Committee. Exercising executive power for the region also involves numerous other responsibilities. As head of the Region, he is also :

  • Head of the Regional Administration : he implements the policy decisions made by the Council and the Standing Committee, supported by the various departments, and appoints the Regional representatives.
  • Budget Manager : he sanctions the expenditures and prescribes the charges to be levied : loans, rates and taxes
  • Heritage Manager : he safeguards regional heritage, incorporating, in particular, the various lycée establishments.
  • Ambassador : he represents the Region through national and international bodies and participates in community partnerships.

The President delegates part of his powers to the Vice-Presidents, the designated members of the Standing Committee. Together, they form the regional "governmental" office.
